Marquette Government

Postby mayorm » December 31st 2011, 12:54 am

This thread is to show everyone how Marquette's National Government breaks down, and whats happening. I will post any elections and Marquette Parliament happenings here as well.

Lets first take a look at some general facts about the government.

Marquette is a Parliamentary Republic and is based out of the capital city of New Chatham. Currently Parliament is split equally with 25 seats held by the MCP (Marquette Conservative Party) and the other 25 seats held by members of the MNLP (Marquette National Liberal Party), making up the total of 50 seats. Although other parties are allowed in Parliament none were presented during election time last year. Prime Minister Louie Marc Boudreau was elected after his 5 tenure as mayor of Ste. Frederic.

The Parliament plays a role in deciding whether the country goes to war, the passing of new laws, setting the government budget, and funding other government programs. The Prime Minister has the responsibility of meeting foreign dignitaries, overseeing the operations of Parliament, signs new laws, and controls the military in times of conflict.

The Marquette Supreme Court hears all cases that escalate to a national level, and also oversees the actions of Parliament to make sure their decisions are within the limits of the Marquette Doctrine signed two days after the country's independence. The Supreme Court has 10 judges that all vote on the case. All court judges are appointed by Parliament and their term on the Supreme Court lasts for 4 years.

Currently the Supreme Court is hearing the case of:
Evans vs. Ontario County

Ontario County evicted Steven Evan's and his business for the purpose of building a new 4 lane highway, but Evan's was never notified of his business being affected by the path of the highway. Sure enough investigators found that the highway was being built three blocks east, but there was a need to re-route some water mains.

The Department of Defense is responsible for...defense. This is where all Military operations are based out of, where the General Command Staff meets, and where all Military laws and Court Marshalls are held. All 3 branches of the Military are based out of the Department of Defense Buildings, the three branches are the Army, Air Guard, and Special Operations. Due to having access to the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes but no access to the oceans, Marquette has no Navy except for one Patrol Boat operated by the Army that was donated from Canada.

Today the Department of Defense announced that they will purchase an additional Frigate class ship from the Canada. Thus increasingits Naval fleet to a total of two Frigate class ships. This will be a reported 250 million $CAD purchase, the ship will be made in the shipyards and will be completed in 2014. The Ships will both remain under control of the Army and will be used to patrol the countries waterways in order to stop illegal immigration and Meth trafficking.

The United Kingdom of Cattala is pleased to see Marquette using its navy for peaceful purposes and to prevent the illegal drugs trade from expanding into Marquette and North America. The Marino Salvatori is well established in preventing illegal immigration, and is willing to assist in the training of Marquette's forces in preventing illegal immigration.

The Marquette Government has passed the first new law in 2012. The law states:

The Parliament of Marquette has hereby banned the ownership of the following animal species as pets, Alligators, Cobras, Pythons, and Chimpanzees. Any current owners of such species are required to give up possession of such animals to thier local zoo or wildlife facility. Any person caught with possesion of these animals will be fined $6,000 for first offense, and the animal will be taken.

The announcement was made after an Alligator was found swimming in a shallow pond near the town of Keila. The alligator was captured by animal control and is being sent to the Rorherstown Zoo.

Love the positioning of the Government buildings. You should experiment with the lot editor and do some custom lots to make the look even better.

great information too, love the new law and I totally agree in RL with the idea it supports.
Coming soon, new information.

Thank you Fox :)

The people of Marquette recently celebrated the newest holiday in the growing country. Heros Day honoring the men and women who serve our country in the military, fire, police, and ambulance core. Many towns held parades and fireworks celebrations to honor those serving, and who have served their country in the past. Prime Minister Boudreau also dedicated a new memorial to the Hometown Heroes, a memorial which honors the Firemen who died while fighting the Broad Street Chemical Fire last month. The ruined wall was recently restored and the names of those who passed away have been inscribed on the wall.

Huston- Thank you
ggamgus- No not Independence Day, it is as Waterclaw said more along the lines of Memorial Day, mostly for the hometown heroes in the Fire and Police Departments, along with ambulance drivers. The military is also honored as well though. :)
Waterclaw- Correct it is the Marquette version of Memorial Day.

Today the Republic of Marquette has unveiled the Eckert Plan! This plan is put forward to improve and add additional national parks, the plan focuses on adding more urban parks, and improving national park funding. The Parks and Recreation department will start by adding new public spaces in urban areas in the coming months, and later this year will begin to purchase more land for national parks and wildlife areas.

The Parks and Recreation department will also purchase additional land to be given to the Maseopian Indian Reservation. Below is concept art for a new urban park in Ste. Ariel

Today Marquette is proud to announce its new defense spending budget and military upgrades. The new enlarged military will allow Marquette to participate in international affairs and provide more international security and assistance.
