Image Press Release: East Asian Crisis The United Carolinian Confederation will reiterate it's position to stand by it's ally, the Federal Kingdom of Teiko at this time. We unilaterally support Teiko in this crisis, as outlined by the 2017 Carolina-Teiko Joint Defense Treaty.

Carolina will stand by the statement of it's ally, the Okatian Federation and their intelligence which says that the submarine was located in the Ryukyu Sea which would be several thousands miles from the coast of the Amurian Republic.

Carolina also continues to stand by it's earlier statement that Teiko has the full and unconditional right to conduct naval drills, including those with submarines in international waters. Teiko has the right of navigation to anything further than 12 nautical miles from the Amurian coast line. At this time no intelligence has proved that the submarine was inside of Amurian territorial waters. Therefore the escalation by the Amurian Republic and Republic of Sansheng seems unnecessary at this time.

Carolina will reiterate that it's naval units in the Pacific Ocean, including those who are currently with the US-Carolina Joint Pacific Taskforce have been put on alert. Active duty men and women of the Carolinian Navy at our leased base in Teiko and at Joint-Base Guam have also been placed on alert. We will retaliate to any provocation by either the Amurian Republic or Republic of Sansheng toward our allies, including but not limited to, the Federal Kingdom of Teiko and the Okatian Federation.

Lastly, Carolina hopes to see this event end peacefully and urges the Republic of Sansheng to rethink their deployment of a naval carrier near Teiko.

Image A Transcript from the Presidential Press Briefing, Andringa Presidential Palace, Savannah, Carolina Capital District, February 14th, 2018:
Abby Whelan: Good afternoon everyone, we of course have a lot of news to cover. First, before I take questions, President Haley will be speaking about the current crisis which is unfolding in East Asia. She will not be available to ask questions after her speech.

Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United Carolinian Confederation

Haley: Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, please take your seats. As most of you know, right now Carolina is currently a part of a crisis which is unfolding in East Asia, between Teiko and Sansheng. Sansheng believes that Teiko dispatched a submarine off of the coast of Amuria, and thus sent an aircraft carrier reportedly into the Sea of Japan. This move was seen as a provocation toward Teiko and therefore Carolina is obligated by it’s defense treaty to make sure that its allies are kept safe from any threats. We have alerted our naval personnel stationed in Teiko and Guam that they may be needed at moments notice, to confront any threat or provocation from either the government of Sansheng or Amuria against Teiko or any of our allies in the East Asian region. We have not deployed any ships into the Ryukyu Sea nor have we moved any of our personnel from Guam to Teiko, because this is only an issue of defense and not of offense. However, the Sansheng government has repeatedly ignored calls from Teiko, Carolina, and its allies to remove it’s carriers from the sea around Teiko. Therefore, it appears that at this time both Amuria and Sansheng are much more interested in their own interests than regional stability.

Carolina will continue to be a part of the coalition of Teiko, Oka, and Nakama which supports Teiko in the measure and advocates that Sansheng stop their provocation in order to preserve regional stability. Our utmost goal is to make sure that stability in the region is preserved, and Sansheng is posing a threat to that stability. That being said, Carolinian naval carriers will not be told to leave base unless they are being brought back to the Carolinian mainland, or a major provocation is undertaken by Sansheng or Amuria. We will not under any circumstances fire the first shot of this war, unless we are greatly threatened, as we are purely in the region for the defense of our allies. That is the only information that we have of right now. Please direct any questions you have to Ms. Whelan.

The Amurian government wishes to send its regrets to President Haley for choosing to become involved in the ongoing crisis prematurely. While we recognize the treaties Carolina has with the country of Teiko, we sincerely believe that continued Carolinian interference is only bringing this crisis to heightened tensions. The Amurian government wishes that Carolina take a neutral position to first determine origin of the submarine that violated Amurian territorial sovereignty before taking a position against the Amurian Republic.

Image In Response to the Amurian Republic:
As of now, the United Carolinian Confederation fully believes the intelligence report produced by the Okatian Federation which states that the submarine in question was located within the Ryukyu Sea, which is several thousand miles from the Amurian coastline. As of now, this is the only credible intelligence report which exists. The Siculian satellite imagery also produces a second theory where the submarine in question would be just inside of the exclusive economic zone of Amuria/Sansheng. Therefore in either case, the Amurian Republic and Republic of Sansheng have no right to threaten or provoke Teiko over the submarine, as neither report has shown it within the territorial waters of Amuria. Teiko has a right of navigation of waters outside of 12 nautical miles away from the Amurian shoreline, and this right is protected by international law.

At the same time, Carolina will not bow down to the pressures of Amuria and become neutral as it has the right and responsibility to abide by the treaties it signs as well as protect its allies and it's interests in the Asia-Pacific region. Carolina has not asked Amuria to abandon it's ally, the Republic of Sansheng out of respect for Amurian interests and we ask to be treated with the same respect. It also appears abnormal that Amuria should be asking Carolina to become neutral, while at the same time, Amuria has repeatedly tried to pressure Teiko into peace talks and has tried to bring down a solution in the Alliance of Independent Nations General Assembly which would solve the crisis.

Kendall, my comments on the General Assembly were out of character, which is why they weren’t in blue.

Image Travel Advisory: Arriola (Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution) The Department of State is issuing a travel advisory for the Aranese Community, also known as Arriola. This travel advisory includes the Aranese territories of Guiana and Saint Martin.

Widespread anti-Carolinian sentiment in Arriola following the election of En Comu Podem may pose a danger to Carolinians living in or visiting Arriola. As of now, there are no reports of violence against Carolinians in Arriola, however a large portion of the general public has a disfavorable view toward Carolinians. In addition, due to a new anti-religion campaign by the government, Carolinians are advised to stay away from religious sites in Arriola and avoid wearing religious clothing or jewelry. Carolinian citizens potentially could be victims of harassment, mistreatment, and extortion by law-enforcement and other officials. Carolinian consular services are available in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona, and Toulouse, however consular services may be slow in rural areas.

If you decide to travel to Arriola :
  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling to tourist locations and in crowded public venues.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Avoid wearing religious clothing, jewelry, or anything that may publically associate you with a particular religion.
  • Monitor local media for breaking events and adjust your plans based on news information.
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by Carolinian or American citizens.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
  • Visit our website for Travel to High-Risk Areas.
  • Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter.

Image Statement on Arriolan Freedom of Religion Campaigns Carolina would like to strongly condemn the recent acts by the Arriolan government to take down religious symbols across the country. As a nation, we strongly believe in the fundamental freedom of freedom of religion. However, freedom of religion is the allowance for everyone to express their openly to the public. Therefore this is act is suppressing the religion of the people of Arriola rather than advocating for freedom of speech.

We understand that this was a decision by the Supreme Court, and wish to respect the ruling. However, the ruling placed vague restrictions on religion in Aranese society, and the interpretation of this ruling likely has been largely up to Prime Minister Stampietr. Therefore, we strongly urge the Aranese government to reconsider their stance on this issue.

Statement on the Cooperation of American Alliance Nations (CAAN) The State Department would like to clarify Carolina's role in the Cooperation of American Alliance Nations after false statements were made by several Arriolan government organization including the Prime Minister and Secretariat of Foreign Affairs. The Cooperation of American Alliance Nations (CAAN) was founded by Carolina, Santa Catarina, Siculia, and Poemia. The plan for an organization in the region stemmed a joint consensus between Carolina and Santa Catarina for better relations across the America's. The plan includes a free trade agreement, joint-military drills, an open skies agreement among more cooperation. The goal of the organization is not to provide for "Carolina neo-colonization" but rather to make sure North and South American members of the Alliance cooperate similar to the level of TON members. We are disappointed to hear that Arriola does not wish to participate in the group, but understands the Arriolan people's wishes to not join.

Carolina, while proven interventionist in the past, only does so on the behalf of its allies such as Teiko. While we support the Conservative Party in Poemia because of their proven record toward normalizing Carolinian-Poemian relations, we support every party in Poemia that is willing to work toward further peace in the Americas, which undoubtedly means building a stronger relationship between Carolina and Poemia. Further, Carolina strongly condemns the silencing of Poemian citizens who back the Conservative Party as a violation of their fundamental right to freedom of speech.

From: Vice Admiral Dakota M. Dahl
The Office of the Minister of Naval Affairs

To: Dylan Passereau
Secretary of State of the United Carolinian Confederation

Good Morning!

The Prime Minister and I will be traveling to Washington DC to meet with General Joseph Dunford next week, and we would like to stop in and have a discussion about our expanding Joint Naval Station Initiative the following week. I believe we have much to discuss about it, especially the infrastructure. I personally would like to speak with your Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to work out the details. My Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer Duke Alexander would like to speak with you directly about creating closer economic ties. Our political cultures may differ greatly, but we definitely have much in common, economically. Two of the most influential economic powers in the world have the ability to influence the world to be a better place if we work together. I look forward to hearing your response!

Kind Regards,
Vice Admiral Dakota Dahl
Minister of Naval Affairs
