Nation: Queensland
Grain crops produced: Wheat, barley, sorghum, cotton
Horticulture crops produced: Pineapple, mango, banana
Livestock: Lamb, beef, poultry
Aquaculture: Prawn, oyster, algae

Has your Nation banned/restricted import/export of particular food stuffs: The government issues import/export permits and licences for many foods, but especially for dairy products. In addition, imports of beef from the European Union has been banned since 1998, and there are strict additional licences for beef and dairy imports from the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Does your Nation provide subsidies to agricultural businesses: Yes. However, like the neighbouring nation of Australia, Queensland has very low subsidies for the agriculture sector. Agricultural outlays in Queensland are 0.31 percent of total federal GDP, well below the OECD average national outlays of 0.85 percent.

Other info: Land used for organic food production is approximately 2.2 percent of total agricultural land in Queensland.

Queensland government bans the use of insecticides/herbicides containing endosulfan, chlorpyrifos, diuron, or atrazine. In addition, all neonicotinoid pesticides were banned earlier this week.

Feeding of swill, fish meal, blood meal, meat and bone meal, and chicken litter to livestock and ruminant animals is strictly prohibited and is punishable by imprisonment.

Nation: The Republic of Takyoto
Grain crops produced: Rice, wheat, tapioca
Horticulture crops produced: Soybean, cherries, strawberries
Livestock: Poultry
Aquaculture: Salmon, shrimp, oyster

Has your Nation banned/restricted import/export of particular food stuffs: Takyoto has placed a strict restriction of the imports of foreign rice and seafood. This is in order to keep the local farmers at work and reduce costs for exports.

Does your Nation provide subsidies to agricultural businesses: Any subsidies that are given to agricultural businesses are given mainly to rice farmers. However, the nation is starting to cut some subsidies towards bigger, thriving businesses.

Just a thought. Went I visited Mid-Queensland on one occasion. We heard that the farmers were just running the farms down, with no capital injection. So if you had based it on QLD's real figures, maybe the industry could have been better managed in role play, thus meaning more sugar and money. :P
